Research on the GDR

Current findings from the archives reference service

As well as archived records from the GDR era, the Federal Archives makes newly completed research on the Berlin holdings available in its library, concentrated in one place. In return for the provision of records free of charge, a deposit copy must be transferred of every publication for whose compilation the holdings of the Federal Archives were used for research purposes.

The bibliography of the deposits of GDR research publications allows a quick overview of recently addressed topics and of current publications. Newly transmitted publications are promptly incorporated. All listed monographs and contributions to periodicals or omnibus volumes can be ordered for inspection in the library of the Federal Archives with the stated reference number.

To use the directories

The directories contain the arrivals of the specified year. These are classified by subject matter. Classification is in line with the subject matter description used in the online catalogue. However, each title is listed only once, even if several elements of subject matter come into consideration. Articles in journals and omnibus volumes are listed when the library receives information on them. This literature has been roughly classified according to subject matter. However, each title is listed only once, even if several elements of subject matter come into consideration.

The directories contain titles from reference services for holdings in the German Reich section, the GDR section and the Foundation, if they have gone into the library.
