East documentation

The Lastenausgleichsarchiv (archives on equalization of burdens) provides access to East documentation produced in the 1950s; with 8,000 accounts of experiences and 18,000 completed questionnaire reports on the expulsions, it constitutes an authentic source for the fate of the German expellees. The documentation also includes records of the flight across the Baltic, reports on administration and industry, and on contemporary events 1919–1945 in the territories east of the Oder and Neisse, reports on the life of German ethnic groups in Czechoslovakia (1918-1945) and some 15,000 parish registers (some with local maps).
