Management of the Agency

As a higher state authority, the Federal Archives fall under the Minister of State for Culture in the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. The President of the Federal Archives, headquartered in Koblenz, heads up the Federal Archives and has as deputy the Vice-President. In May 2011, Dr. Michael Hollmann was appointed President of the Federal Archives. Dr. Andrea Hänger was appointed Vice-President in January 2015.

Born on the 25th of August 1961 in Aachen, married, three children.

1979 University entrance diploma (Abitur) at the Eichendorff-Gymnasium, Koblenz

1979 - 1984 Studies and graduation in history and German philology at the Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Mainz

Juli 1988 Doctorate (Dr. phil.) in Mainz with a thesis on "Das Mainzer Domkapitel im späten Mittelalter"

1989 - 1991 Training for higher archive services in the Bundesarchiv (Federal Archives) and the Archive School of Marburg

1991 - 2006 Head of several sections of the Bundesarchiv in Koblenz and Berlin

2006 - 2011 Head of the Department Federal Republic of Germany (Department B)

2000 - 2004 Member of the Committee on Information Technology of the International Council on Archives (ICA)

2006 - 2010 Representative of the Bundesarchiv at the Steering Committee of the DLM-Forum

2007 - 2008 Chair of the DIN-NABD 15 "Standards Board: Records Management and Long Term Conservation of Digital Information"

3 May 2011 Appointment as President of the Bundesarchiv
